Left-Brain/Right-Brain Multi-Document Summarization

چکیده
Since we began participating in DUC in 2001, our summarizer has been based on an HMM (Hidden Markov Model) for sentence selection within a document and a pivoted QR algorithm to generate a multi-document summary. Each year, however, we have modified the features used by the HMM and added added linguistic capabilities in order to improve the summaries we generate. This year’s entry, called “CLASSY” (Clustering, Linguistics, And Statistics for Summarization Yield), was designed to evaluate phrase elimination and co-reference resolution in preand post-processing. Our participation in DUC 2004 was limited to Tasks 2, 4, and 5; i.e., we did not do any headline generation. We are very pleased with this year’s results, although the effort to improve summarization performance goes on. This paper discusses the design of CLASSY, variants adapted to each task, and new linguistic endeavors. An analysis of the results of our efforts using both Rouge and SEE evaluations is also discussed.

Syntactic Development of Right-Brain and Left-Brain Dominant Iranian EFL Learners: Processability Theory in Perspective
Processability Theory, a component of the cognitive approach to second language acquisition tries to enhance understanding of how the interlanguage knowledge systems can be restructured by second language learners (Pienemann, 1998, 2015). The present study intended to run a similar investigation into the syntactic development of Right-Brain and Left-Brain Dominant Iranian EFL learners based on ...

Methods: The study population included 180 students of Sanandaj universities, Sanandaj City, Iran who were selected with convenience sampling method (100 left-brained males, 6 left-brained females, 56 both le...
متن کاملAssessment of brain laterality among Iranian addicts and smokers
Previous research supported that the prevalence of addiction is related to brain laterality. Brain laterality is often determined by left/right handedness and this phenomenon is considered as an important factor in addiction prevalence. The present study attempts to examine the relationships between left/right handedness with addiction and smoking on Iranian population. In this study, 2000 male...

متن کاملInvestigating the Relationship Between the Left and Right Hemisphere of the Brain and the Field of Study of Golestan University of Medical Sciences Students
Background and Objective: In the process of learning, interaction and organization of both the right and left hemispheres of the brain are involved. The different functions of each hemisphere and the different capacity and learning strategies show that people do not learn in the same way. Paying attention to the capabilities of both hemispheres of the brain in the learning process can lead to a...
